Rigid KBK Crane for Vehicle Body Manufacturing in Australia
In modern manufacturing environments, especially in vehicle body and cargo box production, flexible and customized lifting solutions are essential to ensure efficiency, safety, and optimal use of space. This project focuses on the KBK rigid crane system custom-designed for a specialized car body manufacturer in Australia. The manufacturer had specific requirements regarding both structure and operation. The KBK crane was designed not only as a lifting system, but also as an integrated part of the customer’s workshop renovation and roof modification plan.
This project utilizes Qingdao FOB (Free On Board) delivery terms. The production and delivery cycle is 30 working days. Shipping is to Australia. The crane system was developed strictly according to the customer's workshop layout, production processes, and future expansion needs. This fully demonstrates the advantages of KBK modular cranes.
System Configuration and Basic Parameters
The KBK crane system features a rigid KBK design and includes a steel structure. It is classified as A3 and has a rated lifting capacity of 1 ton. The total span is 11.47 meters, and the total lifting height is 6.8 meters. Of this, 4.8 meters is the effective lifting height, with an additional 2 meters reserved for structural adjustments. The crane operates on 415V, 50Hz, 3-phase power, which fully complies with Australian industrial electrical standards.
To meet different operational habits and safety needs, the control mode combines pendant control and wireless remote control. Each remote control is supplied with an additional spare transmitter, and all receiver wiring is pre-connected before shipment, ensuring fast commissioning on site.

Fully Electric and Dual Bridge Design
One of the key highlights of this project is that the KBK crane system is fully electric, including electric lifting, electric hoist traveling, and electric long-travel movement. In total, the system consists of two bridge cranes running on the same runway structure, significantly improving material handling efficiency along the 36.57-meter operating length.
The runway is precisely designed with a total length of 36.77 meters, extending 100 mm beyond the column centerline on each side. This ensures smooth crane travel while maximizing coverage of the working area.
Highly Customized Steel Structure
The customer’s workshop features a unique “roof” structure that will be installed on top of the KBK steel framework. To accommodate this, the inner distance between columns is set at 12.12 meters, while the outer width reaches 12.77 meters, perfectly matching the roof dimensions selected by the customer.
A particularly challenging requirement involved seven columns that needed to be 2 meters higher than the others. Among these, the rightmost extended column must be installed tightly against an existing column, with its base plate not extending outward. Additionally, all column base plates are supplied separately rather than welded to the columns, allowing the customer to perform on-site welding and cut column lengths as needed to adapt to floor level variations.
The KBK crane design also considers the additional roof load of approximately 1.8 tons (three sections of 0.6 tons each). Column selection and structural strength calculations were adjusted accordingly to ensure long-term safety and stability.

Additional Structural Materials and Reinforcement
Beyond the standard KBK crane system, the project includes a large quantity of customized galvanized steel square tubes. These consist of:
- 2 × 36.77 meters of 100×100×2.5 mm galvanized square tubes, supplied in segmented lengths, to be welded by the customer on top of the KBK steel beams.
- 14 reinforcement plates, used to strengthen the connection between the galvanized tubes and the KBK structure.
- 220.62 meters of 75×75×2 mm galvanized square tubes, intended for manufacturing light truck cargo boxes.
Conclusion
This project demonstrates how a KBK crane can go far beyond a standard lifting solution. Through precise customization, modular design, and close cooperation with the end user, the KBK crane system became an integral part of the customer’s workshop transformation. Its flexibility, adaptability, and structural integration capabilities make it an ideal choice for manufacturers with complex space constraints and evolving production needs, especially in industries such as vehicle body manufacturing.
